Fresh from Superherohype...
"We're not really surprised by Chris Evans' comments to MTV, because 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios are leaning more towards a Silver Surfer spin-off with a script by J. Michael Straczynski than they are moving forward with a third Fantastic Four movie.
"I'm pretty sure we won't do [another] one," Evans said, adding that as far as he's concerned, it's "a closed book."
Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige last summer said the Silver Surfer movie had been "moved to the forefront" of discussions. And just last month, Straczynski said the spin-off will cover the origin of the character and will feature Galactus."

ComingSoon.net will have a full write-up of the presentations made by the various studio's international distribution arms at ShoWest's International Day, but some potentially interesting information was leaked by Andrew Cripps, President of Paramount Pictures International, when he announced that Iron Man, the studio's summer kick-off and first movie in their partnership with Marvel Studios, will be released Day-and-Date worldwide on April 30.
Now most people might remember that Iron Man has long staked a claim on the release date of May 2, 2008, almost since it was announced, and it seems odd that Paramount might release the movie two days earlier in other markets, although it's not unheard of. (Maybe this writer is misremembering but they might have done that with Mission: Impossible III a few years ago.) It's more likely that they realized how much anticipation there'll be for the movie and decided to try a similar strategy they did with Michael Bay's Transformers last year, where the release date kept being moved earlier and earlier until it had screenings on Monday night, building up word-of-mouth for its first weekend. If Paramount does plan to release the movie a few days earlier, possibly with preview screenings on Wednesday or Thursday, expect that announcement to be made very soon.
After showing the teaser trailer and talking about the marketing for George Lucas and Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Cripps also told the audience of mostly international exhibitors that there would be a new trailer for the movie sometime in April, presumably with Iron Man, as if anyone who went to see that superhero movie wouldn't know that Indy's back! Earlier that day, Cripps wouldn't comment when a moderator at a seminar tried getting him to confirm that the new Indy movie would premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival in early May.
Wondering what's going on behind the scenes of Marvel's long-rumored Thor and Ant-Man adaptations?
Good news: Empire has been wondering the same thing -- and they recently caught up with Matthew Vaughn and Edgar Wright, respective caretakers of the Thor and Ant-Man film franchises, and were able to ask them a few questions about where those projects stand.
In the case of Thor, according to Vaughn, the answer is "in a holding pattern" -- if only for the moment. The director says he's waiting for Marvel "to decide if they want to make the movie," which sounds awfully ominous, but that didn't keep Vaughn from sharing some of his ideas for the film and its title character:
Well, the main role is going to be played by someone totally unknown. It can't be a star, it's got to be someone totally unknown...I think you have to respect that it is a comic book and silly to be frank, so you have to combine that with a modern style and hopefully come up with something fresh. I think we can come up with something special.
Meanwhile, Ant-Man writer-director Edgar Wright is hard at work on what he refers to as "a second draft" of his script with Joe Cornish, and to fans who fear he's turning the diminutive Marvel hero into the butt of a joke, he says not to worry:
It's going to be less overtly comedic than anything else I've ever done. It's more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film, but with a comedic element -- in the same spirit of a lot of escapist fare like that. It's certainly not a superhero spoof or pastiche, and it certainly isn't a sort of 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids' endeavor at all.
Of course, hardcore Ant-Man fans (there must be at least a few) know that the Ant-Mantle has been assumed by two men, described by Empire as "the goody-two-shoes scientist Hank Pym" and "the more roguish Scott Lang." So which one is Wright planning on bringing to a theater near you?
Ah, well, it could be Scott Lang, it could be Hank Pym, it could be both -- okay, it is both. Now there's an exclusive for you.

If This doesnt get you excited for the film I dont know what will!
Marvel Entertainment announced its fourth quarter and full year operating results this morning, and with it came the news that you'll be seeing the first trailer for The Incredible Hulk in early March. Our guess is that it will hit theaters with Warner Bros.' PG-13 rated 10,000 B.C. on March 7 (if that's true, make sure you call your theater to see if the trailer is playing with the showtime you're thinking of attending, as it will likely not be on every screen) and then with the R-rated Universal (the studio releasing "Hulk" in theaters) pic Doomsday on March 14.
Also, it was revealed that, because of the writers strike and possible actors strike, Marvel Studios will have one in-house release in the later part of 2009, instead of two like this year (Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk), but it's anyone's guess right not if that is Ant-Man, Captain America, Thor or The Avengers. We have a feeling (again, this is not official) that it will be the Matthew Vaughn-directed Thor, but we'll see. In 2010 and onward, they expect to release two films per year again.
