HSX reports that Iron Man's Thursday previews were massive raking in an estimated $6 Million! in comparison to films like Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean which had well into the teens its small but compared to last years transformers which had right around $8 million its great! Transformers thursday showings were heavely promoted as Iron Man's were not. If they had pushed it more they could have gone far beyond that. Its a great start for a great movie!
World Wide Iron Man opened on April 30th and in that two days its racked in over $21 million dollers over seas! Again thats not on par with Spider-Man films but those were far more known then Iron Man is in most countries. Its a fantastic start and is looking to get right around $80-$100 million dollers over the next three days. if it opens strong enough here it could cross the $200 million mark by the end of the weekend. thats an astounding start for our tin man!
With the final Marvel movie coming to DVD in just a couple weeks I thought now would be a great time to write but the Box Office Review.
With an amazing opening at the box office with an astounding $151.1 million dollers it smashed the three day opening weekend record by miles. The last holder held it at just over $130 million which was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest. Spider-Man, even though it broke the record by far its legs were very small and garnered nearly $75 million less. It fill hard its second weekend and continued to free fall from there. The reviews from fans and critics alike were not as kind to the webslinger this time around which is slightly to blame for its underperformance. But when you look at the massive amount of competition it had from Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End and Shrek the Third it fared rather well. It finished with a total of $336.5 million falling below the second instalment of the Spider-Man trilogy by over $37 million. it was a simillar fall to the second installment from the first. But it was enough to nearly get it the name of #1 of the year. The chances of other films beating it are very slim so Marvel has another #1 film! Overall it wasnt a bad run but slightly dissapointing.
The overseas box office of the webslinger was higher then the last two films. It had an amazing run overseas and had a total of $554.0 million! overall it garnered a whopping total of $890.5 million!
so with a dissapointing run domesticly and an amazing run overseas it was able to top the first two films world wide with an amazing gross that should make any superhero proud.
With its Box Office rapping up to the tune of millions Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hit store shelves on DVD last week. So, with the film soon to be left behind in memories I thought I might do a box office review for the film.
On June 15th a star powered super hero film burst its way onto theater screens with an amazing $58,051,684 surpassing the first film by over two million dollers showing that the film had built a decent fanbase to thrive off of. But, with so many films being released over the crowded summer the Fantastic Four was soon forgotten. Tumbling over 65% to $20,009,476. It was dissapointing but it seemed reasonable considering the large first weekend but that wasnt the last. It continued its large falls pretty much from then on out and once the falls began to get smaller it was far to late to recover. Its total now stands at $131,892,723, falling below the first film by over twenty million dollers.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hit the over seas market with a bang but, like here in the U.S., fell hard and its overseas gross was again, less then the first film. It had a decent run and it still isint over yet as alst week it pulled in another million. but needless to say it has been dissapointing none the less with a current total of $152,790,854. The first film had an overseas gross of $175,424,795.
so overall the Silver Surfer has gathered $284,683,577 world wide against the first films $330,120,875 down over 14% from the first film. Its easy to say that it wasnt as good as it could have been but it was enough to cover the $130 million doller budget and hopefully enough to get us another film. so with this years Marvel box office coming to a close we eagerly await next years.
